Annexation

The Glendale City Council adopted an updated annexation policy on February 12, 2019, that provides the review and analysis process for undeveloped and developed properties.  According to the 2020 census, the population of Glendale is 248,325. The City Council, at their February 12, 2005 workshop, gave direction to city staff to be proactive in the annexation of the Loop 303 five-mile strip from Peoria Avenue to Camelback Road from Cotton Road to Sarival Road. The City Council indicated an openness to consider all other annexation requests within the strip annex area.

The Glendale Strip Annex Area is a ten-foot strip of land that is located along Northern Avenue, Peoria Avenue, Perryville Road, Camelback Road, and adjacent to property lines. The strip annex area is approximately 39 square miles. Other communities cannot annex property within the strip annex area. Maricopa County Planning and Development Department administers the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances within the strip annex area. The strip annex area is within the Glendale Municipal Planning Area, the 2008 water and sewer plan, and the Glendale General Plan.
