Restaurant Extension of Premises Process
The City of Glendale wants to make it easy for existing restaurants
to expand their serving areas (premises) in order to create more
space between diners. If you have an existing restaurant and
want to extend the premises to maintain physical distancing
requirements for up to 180 days consider these questions/steps:
1. DO YOU WANT TO SERVE ALCOHOL?
If yes, contact Tax & License at 623.930.3190.
If no, go to step 2.
2. DO YOU WANT TO INSTALL ANY PHYSICAL
BARRIERS OR TEMPORARY STRUCTURES LIKE FENCING & TENTS?
If yes, contact Fire Marshall’s Office at 623.930.4421.
If no, go to step 3.
3. DO YOU WANT TO EXTEND ONTO PUBLIC
PROPERTY/RIGHT OF WAY?
If yes contact Fire Marshall’s Office at 623.930.4421.
If no, talk to your property manager.
If the answer to all three questions is no, the restaurant doesn’t need a permit
and can proceed with permission from the property owner/manager. If the answer to any of
these questions is yes, please contact the appropriate office listed above.
For existing restaurants these permits can be approved very quickly for a period of up to
180 days and can be renewed.
