FREE GAMES AND SPORTS OFFERED AT CITY PARKS THROUGH REC ON WHEELS PROGRAM

Drop-in activities conveniently offered throughout city parks

The weather is perfect for children to head outside to play sports and games while socializing with their peers through the city of Glendale’s REC on Wheels program. The main purpose of REC on Wheels is to engage children in play to boost their health and wellness through safe physical activity that also keeps their minds active.

With this FREE program, Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department staff brings chess sets, LEGO tables with building blocks, flag football equipment, cornhole sets, baseball bases, basketballs, soccer nets and other playful gear to parks that are a short walk or drive from many local schools. Children can also play large Connect 4 and Jenga games in the parks.

Children can walk to the parks after school, or their parents can drop them off and/or pick them up at the REC on Wheels sites. This is a drop-off program, where participants can play and leave as they like, but parents should stay at the site with their children if their little ones are ages 5 and younger. Some REC on Wheels programs start in the morning, making them ideal for children who are homeschooled or those looking for activities on days off from school.

“REC on Wheels is a great opportunity to bring programming to our residents, so they have the opportunity to enjoy programs and our beautiful parks,” said Dean Kinnoin, Recreation Supervisor for the city of Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department. “We focus on parks that are near elementary schools.”

REC on Wheels will visit the following parks in April:
