Visitors to Glendale’s Heroes Regional Park will now find every day is a day at the lake. The much-anticipated Heroes Park Lake is now open. Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers, Yucca District Councilmember Joyce Clark and fellow councilmembers held a ribbon cutting ceremony today to officially welcome visitors to this new amenity.
Glendale broke ground on the lake in May of 2021 and began filling it in mid-December. The 4-acre lake features fishing piers, ramadas, walking paths and a dazzling waterscape fountain that has color changing lighting with a night glow lighting system. It is part of the Arizona Game and Fish Urban Fishing Program and will be stocked with fish throughout the year, including rainbow trout in the winter and bluegill, sunfish and catfish in the warmer months. The lake also includes aeration equipment to ensure water quality and aquatic habitat.
“A lot of people have waited a long time for this lake to happen,” says Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers. “I want to thank all of our council for sticking together on this, because they understand the importance of giving back to our citizens.”
The lake is the latest addition to the park, joining a splash pad, volleyball and basketball courts, playground areas, an archery range and picnic ramadas. Bringing the lake to the park has been a longtime goal of Yucca District Councilmember Joyce Clark.
“Heroes Park Lake demonstrates the city council’s commitment to complete Heroes Park after 22 years,” says Councilmember Joyce Clark. “Residents will overuse and over love this latest gem in Glendale’s Park system.”
Located at the northeast corner of Bethany Home Road and 83rd Avenue, Heroes Park Lake is Glendale’s second urban fishing lake, joining the lake at Bonsall Park. You can find video and photos of today’s grand opening in our Digital Press Kit.
