Glendale Public Library Summer Reading Program Offers Fun Ways To Earn Prizes
Adventures in Physical, Electronic, Audiobooks Offer Free Entertainment in Hot Months

As the temperatures heat up, it is the perfect time for residents of all ages to grab a book for entertainment and a chance to win prizes through the Glendale Public Library’s Summer Reading program, which launches on June 1.

This inclusive program, part of Maricopa County Reads, gives readers of all ages the chance to earn one point per minute for reading physical or electronic books or listening to audiobooks, through Aug. 1. Earning points entitles readers to prizes from sponsors, including Peter Piper Pizza, Raising Cane's, Sonic Drive-In, Arizona State Parks and the Phoenix Mercury. Upon reaching 1,000 points, readers can choose a free book to keep or donate.

“The theme for this year, ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library,’ emphasizes the limitless adventures a library card can offer, and the Summer Reading Program is the perfect opportunity to reinforce literacy skills, prevent the summer slide, earn prizes and encourage life-long reading habits,” said Dawn Ferro, City of Glendale Interim Library Director.

It is easy to dive into the reading program this summer. Participants simply track their reading progress at home and then visit any Glendale Public Library location to claim their prizes. Children and pre-readers can explore a treasure chest of rewards, while 12 to 18-year-olds can choose from a "teens only" selection of prizes. Adults are rewarded with free books, limited-edition bookmarks and book bags.

In addition to the reading program, Glendale Public Library is hosting a wide range of exciting events throughout June and July.
