Crime Statistics

When a call for service becomes a crime report, a Uniform Crime Report (UCR) number is assigned to the primary offense. The UCR standards are used to compare with local and nationwide cities with similar populations. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) sets these standards. Glendale Police Department participates voluntarily and submits crime data to the Department of Public Safety, a state coordinating agency for the Arizona Uniform Crime Reporting Program.

On January 1, 2021, the FBI transitioned to a National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). The goal of NIBRS is to improve the overall quality of crime data collected by law enforcement by capturing details on each single crime incident -as well as on separate offenses within the same incident- including information on victims and offenders, arrestees, and property involved in crimes.

NIBRS Reporting

The Glendale Police Department transitioned to NIBRS reporting on July 1, 2022. There are four major reporting categories: Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, Crimes Against Society and Group B Offenses (arrests only). For 2023 statistics, refer to the dashboard below for information. Each chart displays the number of offenses reported, total offenses cleared and total arrests for each crime category. Arrest data includes both adults and juveniles.

UCR Crime Statistics

UCR Part 1 crimes include 8 major crimes in its standard, which is broken into two groups: violent or persons crimes (homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault) and property crimes (burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson). Data is drawn from prelimary reports that are extracted from the Glendale Police Department Records Management System (RMS). The data is subject to change based on further investigation and should be used as an information tool only.
