Free Green Living Series Classes

The Green Living Series is a free, year-long educational program for residents interested in learning about environmental best practices. The series is designed to empower participants with information and resources to live in harmony with the Sonoran Desert. Taught by industry experts, past presenters included garden authors such as Judy Mielke, Jo Miller, Kirti Mathura and the late Mary Irish.

Since most residential water use occurs outdoors, sustainable landscape education is key to encouraging water-wise practices and increasing the drought resiliency of our region. The Green Living Series covers a diversity of topics, ranging from composting to rainwater harvesting to xeriscaping. The classes are not just lecture-based, many call for hands-on activities such as scheduling watering days on an irrigation controller or designing your own desert-friendly landscape on tracing paper. Beyond taking home new information, attendees can win raffle prizes.  To foster a sense of community, the city has included free seed and plant exchanges where class attendees can share plant cuttings and plant care tips.

Classes are typically held in person at the Glendale Main Library and surrounding Xeriscape Garden. Additionally, 25 online recordings of Green Living classes can be found here.

The Fall 2023 Green Living Series will begin on October 2 and be held in person at the Glendale Main Library. Check out the full class schedule below.
